Psychotherapy & Psychoanalysis

People come to therapy for different reasons and with different needs. Most people are hoping to feel more effective, experience life more fully and relate to others more deeply. Some are struggling with anxiety, depression, feelings of emptiness or difficulties with intimacy or addiction. Others are hoping to work through the effects of trauma or loss.

My work is grounded in a compassionate and contemporary psychoanalytic approach. By discussing current difficulties and reflecting on past experiences and relationships, we will work together to deepen awareness of your patterns of thought, behavior and emotional responses. When necessary, I adjust my approach to draw from multiple theories of human development and behavioral treatment approaches.

The things that trouble you in life may show up in our sessions. When this happens, it will be very important for us to take notice. These moments are special opportunities for us to understand more deeply what you are experiencing and how things might change.

Mindfulness, the practice of being aware and awake to the present moment, is also a foundation of my work. Mindfulness prompts greater access to thoughts, feelings and body sensations – often the first step to insight and change.
